Last Tuesday we were joined by Texas Fire Ant Specialist Dr. Robert Puckett to discuss fire ant eradication techniques and goals.

Hosted by the Invasive Species Council, the session was a fantastic opportunity to bring together stakeholders across peak bodies and allied organisations to hear Dr. Puckett’s insights as well as kickstart further networking towards furthering the speed and scale of red imported fire ant eradication in southeast Queensland.

Dr Robert Puckett is an Associate Professor and Extension Entomologist at Texas A&M University, specialising in the research and management of urban insect pests.

His work, particularly on the ecology of ant control methods and red imported fire ants, has significantly advanced biocontrol methods. Dr Puckett's ongoing research delves into the biology, behaviour, and management of various invasive social insects, including red imported fire ants, tawny crazy ants, white-footed ants, and Formosan subterranean termites.

It was great to have Dr. Puckett visit us as he travels Australia. A special thank you to AgForce staff and the Invasive Species Council for facilitating the session.
